FTC participates in the Montego Bay & Ocho Rios stops of the MIIC/IDB MSME Business Roadshow 2023

The Montego Stop of the Roadshow was held on October 26, 2023, at the Half Moon Plaza in Montego Bay, St. James and the Ocho Rios Stop was held on November 1, 2023, at Sandals Ocho Rios, St. Ann.  Persons were engaged in one-on-one discussions on the benefits of competitive markets to the growth of the micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSME) sector.  Discussions focused on market access for new products, inputs at competitive prices, and the ability of MSMEs to develop new and improved products and services and to expand locally and globally.

Anti-competitive practices such as abuse of dominance, exclusive dealing, and market sharing tend to foreclose markets to new players and remove existing players from the market. Enforcing the Fair Competition Act effectively and advocating for pro-competitive policies and legislation are the core functions of the FTC in ensuring a level playing field for all businesses to participate in the Jamaican economy.

During the Roadshow the FTC provided valuable information to entrepreneurs about how to recognize anti-competitive practices and issues that may positively or negatively affect MSMEs from a competition and consumer welfare perspective. The FTC also received information on sectors that may exhibit hindrances to effective competition.
