In January 2026, Mrs. Janis Williams was appointed as a Commissioner of the Fair Trading Commission (FTC). She is an accomplished legal, management, and compliance professional who was called to the Bar in November 2010.
Mrs. Williams currently serves as the Acting Chief Operating Officer at the Jamaica Special Economic Zone Authority (JSEZA), an organization with which she has been associated for the past five years. Her professional experience encompasses legal advisory services, regulatory compliance, and executive management, equipping her to provide strong governance and strategic oversight to the Commission.
Janis was educated at the University of the West Indies and is a graduate of the Cave Hill campus. Her experience spans data privacy, international business, franchising, corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, employment law, trade law, strategic planning, advocacy at the criminal and civil bars, and corporate governance.
A former lecturer at the Mona School of Business, Janis volunteers with Women in Law. A wife and a mother, she is eager to see the further development of the Region.
