Dr. Velma May Brown-Hamilton


Dr. Velma Brown is an Attorney-at-Law and has served as a Resident Magistrate in the Parishes of Clarendon and St. Andrew.

She is a Graduate of Westwood High School for Girls, the Mico Teachers College, The University of the West Indies, Mona campus, The University of the West Indies Cave Hill, Barbados Campus, The Norman Manley Law School and Washington International University, USA.

She holds a Doctorate Degree in Business Administration, a Masters Degree in Government majoring in International Relations; a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Languages, a Bachelor of Law Degree, a Diploma in Teaching and a Postgraduate Diploma in Negotiations from Oxford University in the United Kingdom.

She is a Mico Millennium Awardee- Distinguished Graduate of the Century- 1990-2000 for Outstanding Service.

She has served on a number of Boards including the Anti-Dumping and Subsidies Commission, the Dispute Resolution Foundation, the University College of the Caribbean, and the Rotary Club of Downtown Kingston (of which she was its first Female President).

She is the Founder of the Caribbean Legal Suite, a law firm located in Kingston, Jamaica and the President and Founder of the Law College of the Americas and the Children Upliftment and Restoration Foundation (CURE) which hosts for a number of years “The Success Conference for Teens”.

She has written numerous papers for presentation at professional training seminars and conferences.

She has been a Legal Consultant on a number of projects, locally, regionally and internationally.

She is currently the Legal Consultant/ Legal Lead for the ENICTA project, leading the transition to the ICT Authority.

She is a:

  • Director at Remax Jamaica Limited
  • Director at Manpower and Maintenance Services Limited
  • Director at the Law College of Americas
  • Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC)
  • Legal Consultant, serving as Legal Lead on the ENICTA Team which is the team spearheading the Transition EGov to the ICT Authority.

She has two children, Tiffany and Trevor.
