In December 2025, Dr. Nadeen Spence was appointed Chairwoman of the Fair Trading Commission. She brings extensive board leadership experience and strong expertise in corporate governance to the Commission.
Dr. Spence currently serves as the Student Services and Development Manager at Mary Seacole Hall at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus. She also chairs the Boards of the Jamaica Business Development Corporation, the National Water Authority, and the Maxfield Park Children’s Home. In addition, she is a member of the Boards of the Jamaica 4-H Clubs and the CHASE Fund, and serves on Jamaica’s National Commission for UNESCO.
With training in project management, corporate governance, and performance management, Dr. Spence credits her deep understanding of organisational culture and systems to her academic foundation in Political Science, Comparative Politics, and Political Theory. She has contributed to several national committees, including the Committee that developed the National Strategic Action Plan to Eliminate Gender-Based Violence, the National Gender Advisory Council, and the Partnership for Jamaica. These include the Partnership, chaired by former Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, and the current Partnership for Prosperity, chaired by the Prime Minister, Dr. The Most Honourable Andrew Holness.
Dr. Spence holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, a Master’s degree in Comparative Politics and Political Theory, and a PhD in Gender and Development Studies (awarded with High Commendation), all from UWI, Mona. In September 2022, she was named a Visiting Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania.
