The Jamaica Fair Trading Commission (FTC) and the Barbados Fair Trading Commission (BFTC), the two oldest competition authorities within CARICOM, have agreed on the terms of a Cooperation Agreement.  The Agreement will shortly see both Government agencies collaborating formally on conducting investigations and market studies, and on crafting policies concerning competition and consumer protection.

FTC signs MOU with Broadcasting Commission

In July 2020, the Fair Trading Commission and the Broadcasting Commission signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which will facilitate information sharing on matters relating to competition in the radio, television and subscriber television services.  The MOU will facilitate the sharing of relevant data, intelligence, technical and legal expertise, and best practices.

Digicel Issues Redress to Consumers

Between December 2019 and May 2020, Digicel issued redress to consumers following on complaints to the FTC about “unlimited” plans. Of the eleven complaints received, eight consumers received refunds of $19,088.44 in total.
